Ayaneo just teased a revised version of its Flip gaming handheld. You know the one; it looks suspiciously like a Nintendo DS. Well, the likeness comparisons won't be going away anytime soon, as the Ayaneo Flip 1S DS adds a second, smaller display, which is exactly where the stylus touchscreen on Nintendo's handheld is placed.
The AOKZOE A1X.
Very little is known about the Flip 1S DS right now, but we can make some assumptions based on the inclusion of this powerful Ryzen U. The original Flip handheld notably only had a 45Wh battery and was locked into a 28W TDP, which would be very limiting if placed upon the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
If Ayaneo wants the Flip 1S DS to be more competitive in the gaming handheld market, and not just a gimmick device, it will need to consider unlocking the TDP on the U, allowing it to hit the full 30W range (35W when plugged in) but also be adjustable to preserve battery in games where excess power isn't required.
An 80Wh battery is also slowly becoming the new standard for gaming handhelds, and with two screens to power, this would need to be the minimum battery size to prevent releasing a device that can't run for more than an hour or so, even when performing basic tasks.
I can see the dual-screen approach working better now, though, especially if you can set the second screen up to run AyaSpace 3.0 and have full control over system performance. It was possible to change settings on the fly on the original Ayaneo Flip DS, but this was on a much older version of AyaSpace.
We're eagerly awaiting more details beyond the teasers we've seen posted on X (formerly Twitter), where an outline of the console is shown, the U is confirmed, and the promise of better optimized controls is mentioned.
