When I'm playing Command and Conquer, whether it's Red Alert, Tiberian Dawn, or any of the Westwood classics, I find it very easy to be callous – if there's a Nod base guarded by the dreaded Obelisk, I will happily sacrifice an entire division of infantry soldiers to get past the perimeter fence. Commandos is different. Before Company of Heroes and the Firaxis revival of XCOM, the WW2 RTS made every individual soldier feel indispensable, not just in of their combat abilities, but their personalities. 19 years since they last stormed onto PC, Commandos Origins marks the return of the Green Beret, Driver, and crew, and now it has a release date.
The last time we saw the eponymous special forces team it was 2006, with the less-than-beloved, and now impossible to find on PC, Commandos: Strike Force. Originally created by the now-defunct Pyro Studios, the RTS game series remains one of the greatest in PC history, with Commandos 2, from 2001, the indisputable high point.
For almost two decades, it's felt like the Sapper, Sniper, and Spy might never make a return. But the strategy game, built by new steward Claymore Studios, is also coming to Game .
With gorgeous, isometric visuals, full local co-op, and a prequel story that details the formation of the iconic unit, Commandos Origins is one of the most promicoming games of 2025.
