Fallout 76 fishing update gets a release date, and it's just around the corner

Fallout 76 fishing is almost here and Bethesda has revealed loads of new items arriving with the angling-themed Gone Fission update.

Fishing is a truly beautiful pastime. The ripples on the water, the hypnotic bobbing of your float, and the sounds of nature around you all bring your heart rate down – only for a bite to get your pulse racing once again. It's also become one of those must-have mechanics in the videogame world. It's so popular, it's almost an expectation these days that triple-A RPGs and MMOs should have some kind of fishing minigame. Recognizing this, Fallout 76 is finally casting its line out into the irradiated waters of the wasteland. Gone Fission, the update that will bring Fallout 76 fishing to players after more than six years of waiting, is just around the corner.

Bethesda revealed that MMORPG.

You'll begin with a basic rod and be able to buy standard bait from the Fisherman's Rest location. Your rod can be upgraded and aesthetically customized with new paint jobs and different styles of reels and bobbers. Better quality bait can also be earned from completing daily challenges, participating in public events, or unlocking bundles of fish food as seasonal rewards. The higher the quality of your bait, the more chance you have of catching rarer fish. The top catches are known as Local Legends which are high-difficulty, location-specific fish. There will also be a set of exotic axolotls that will rotate each month.

To fish, all you have to do is simply approach a body of water, look at where you want to fish, and press a key to get out your rod – there's no need to manually equip it. From there, you press another key to cast, wait for a fish to bite and drag your bobber beneath the surface, and then engage in a quick minigame to land it.

The fish you catch can be turned into Fish Bits, a new ingredient that in turn is used in recipes that will improve your fishing skills if consumed.

As shown in today's new trailer for Gone Fission, the update will also deliver loads of angling-themed items. From your own house boat, to rod displays, to a backpack that looks like diving gear, there's plenty to earn and obtain. Note that some are exclusive items that can only be unlocked with a Fallout 1st hip. The trailer also confirms the release date for the update, and it's not far away at all.

Fallout 76 fishing arrives in the Season 21 Gone Fission update on Tuesday, June 3, according to Bethesda.
