Frostpunk 2 isn't one of those sequels that simply re-tread old ground with a few new bells and whistles. Instead, it's a game that significantly expands upon the solid foundation laid by the original. Despite only releasing back in September, Fanatical is already running a discount that brings the price down below $30 / £25 – it's cheapest price yet.
For those who have yet to play 11 bit's strategy games and has you setting up colonies and supply lines so that you've always got resources coming into the capital.
To quote Reid McCarter's Frostpunk 2 review, "[The game] makes clever reconsiderations of, and expansions on, the first game's design, offering a better-rounded, even harsher follow-up to the original's concept." The ability to zoom out and establish settlements throughout the larger Frostland map really helps make it feel a lot grander in scale and provides challenges and considerations that you'd never have to think about in the first game (such as clearing ice so you can build, or ensuring powerlines can weather the elements).
What it doesn't change, however, is its nuanced approach to running a community. You're at the head of a democracy and so it's your job to keep everybody happy. The problem is that you're going to have different factions with conflicting needs, and with storms and other unexpected hazards popping up to upend your plans, you're going to have to make some difficult decisions.
You have to be very careful about who you disappoint though, because if you're not careful one group might rise up and cause enough disruption to collapse your entire society. The difficult political nuances of the game help to make the whole scenario feel a lot more believable.
Not only is the standard edition of Frostpunk 2 on sale at 36% off, bringing the price down to $28.79 / £24.31 from $44.99 / £37.99, but the Deluxe Edition is also 30% off, meaning it costs just $52.49 / £44.09 where it would normally be $74.99 / £62.99. The Deluxe Edition comes bundled with a season , a tie-in novella, an exclusive in-game item, and a digital artbook and soundtrack.
