It's the third time you go through the RPD building in Resident Evil 2 Remake that it really becomes scary. When you first arrive, Marvin is there, Chief Irons, Sherry, Ben – alongside all the monsters, there are some semblances of 'life.' But eventually, the whole place becomes empty. It's the desolation, the silence, the total absence of everything, that gets under your skin. It's not just frightening. It's melancholic. Taking cues from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Cyberpunk 2077, Hollowbody draws on a similar kind of terror, the terror of nothingness. One of the most distinctive and unnerving horror games of 2024, if you haven't tried Hollowbody yet, it's just been vastly transformed by a big new update.
Created by solo developer Nathan Hamley, under the studio name Headware Games, horror games of the year.
Something awful has happened on the UK mainland and all the major cities have been cordoned off. Playing as Mica, a black-market smuggler, you go looking for your missing partner in what was once a thriving little market town. From there, everything starts to unravel.

I've written previously about how Hollowbody develops and effectuates a sense of isolation. If you haven't played it already – or you've been waiting for a reason to go around again – Headware just released a transformative new update that restores locations, puzzles, and lore that were cut from the game before launch day.
There are new puzzles in the high street and subway sections, as well as a "multi-stage" puzzle that is spread across multiple locations. Four new interior locations have been added, as well as additional collectible files that explain in more detail the history of the doomed city and how and why it fell apart. There are new achievements, performance is optimized during the outside sections, and the fixed camera has been tweaked to allow for better navigation and visibility.
This 'Restoration' cut of Hollowbody is available now. The game is also available now at a 10% discount, dropping the price to $15.29 / £12.86. Of the almost 1,000 reviews that Hollowbody players have posted on Steam, a seriously impressive 89% are positive. If you want to try it out, just head here.
