Lies of P director more "open" to co-op games after Elden Ring Nightreign test

The director of underrated soulslike Lies of P says he's open to making co-op games in the future and ires Elden Ring Nightreign.

Lies of P is unashamed of its obsession with FromSoftware games – the soulslike is not only heavily inspired by them, but it had the goal of becoming an all-time great in the genre. To an extent, I'd say it achieved that goal – while maybe not as exceptional as Elden Ring or Bloodborne, it delivers all the dark, challenging RPG action you'd want, while wrapping it up in a novel setting with a distinct style. With its Overture DLC coming this year, Lies of P's director has been revealing a few more details about it, as well as itting how his recent iration for Elden Ring Nightreign has made him "open to considering" making co-op games – and I wonder if that may be an omen for Lies of P's in-development sequel.

As mentioned, soulslike's director have me hoping for some co-op action.

Speaking to journalists at GDC, Choi Ji-won has been gas the recent public playtest of Elden Ring Nightreign – something he thoroughly enjoyed.

"I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new," he tells Eurogamer. "So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."

He goes on to say that while Overture was always destined to be a single-player expansion that slots into the story of Lies of P's base game, he is "open" to ing co-op in "future endeavors."

Similar sentiment arises in Choi's discussion with TheGamer, stating: "We had to really focus on delivering a single-player game experience. So it really didn't come to us in a way that incorporating something like co-op was something that we could do. It wasn't part of the scope. But moving forward, I think we are definitely open to considering that because we have more time."

Now this is purely speculative on my part, and absolutely nothing official has been said about Lies of P 2 (or whatever title it will go by), but I've got a sneaking suspicion Choi may be eyeing up co-op for the sequel. While most of the top soulslikes keep things single-player, there are multiplayer bangers like Remnant 2 out there, and of course Nightreign will likely raise the profile and demand for more co-op experiences later this year.

Away from the co-op speculation, Choi has mentioned that Lies of P's Overture DLC will be "seamlessly" accessible from chapter nine of the base game, and that he expects experienced players to get between 15-20 hours of play time out of it.
