Square Enix announced today on Twitter that a new Tomb Raider game is on the way – sort of. They actually announced that they will announce the next Lara Croft adventure at a "major event" in 2018.

There's currently little detail beyond that, but the Tweet says they're taking "new approach" here, and it "won't be very long between the official reveal and when you can play." It's unclear whether that new approach refers to the announcement itself or the nature of the game, but we'll find out sometime next year.

Crystal Dynamics, the developers of the Tomb Raider franchise for over a decade, are currently collaborating with Eidos Montreal on an Avengers game. We don't know if that project is taking over the entirety of the studio, or if another developer will be taking on this new Tomb Raider title.
A little over a year ago, the title "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" got leaked in pretty inauspicious circumstances, and there's good reason to think the new game will still bear that title.

Leaks around the same time suggested this title was being developed by Eidos Montreal.
